IFS Informed Financial Therapy – Part 2

IFS Informed Financial Therapy – Part 2

IFS Informed Financial Therapy is a powerful mechanism for change. Becoming certified in IFS Therapy is accessible to every Certified Financial Therapist, even if they don’t have a graduate degree specifically in mental health counseling. IFS certification, which is a lengthy and intense process, gives the Certified Financial Therapist an evidence-based model of therapy that can enhance the financial therapy process.

IFS Informed Financial Therapy combines Internal Family Systems and financial therapy. Internal Family Systems is a type of psychotherapy that finds the various sub-personalities in an individual’s mental system and addresses them.

Most financial decisions are based on emotions. So, an individual’s emotions significantly affect their relationships with money and their financial habits, therefore, their financial health.

Sometimes these emotions can cause a person to have extreme financial beliefs. Then, since these beliefs affect the way people feel and behave, they can negatively affect a financial decision, their personal finance, or even long-term financial goals.

But, a financial planner trained in IFS Informed Financial Therapy can help others see how their beliefs are leading to damaging financial behavior and then use evidence-based methods that will help them to meet their financial goals. This type of financial coaching can make a big difference in people’s lives and can allow an individual to achieve financial well-being more quickly than traditional financial therapy or financial education.

The Financial Therapy Podcast is presented by Rick Kahler, a lifelong resident of South Dakota and founder of the Kahler Financial Group. His podcast gives financial advice that takes into consideration the emotions behind an individual’s financial decisions.
