Financial therapy isn’t about having the right tools—it’s about having the courage to face your own money story first. In this conversation, Khara Croswaite speaks candidly about burnout, money avoidance, and the quiet damage that can happen when helpers skip their own inner work. Through her path from mental health therapy to financial therapy, a hard truth emerges: we can’t ethically ask clients to go places we refuse to go ourselves. Rick reflects on why vulnerability—not polish or credentials—is what builds trust, why so many therapists struggle with money in silence, and how financial therapy often becomes a second career precisely because it demands depth, humility, and lived experience.

About Khara Croswaite
Khara Croswaite is a mental health leader, financial therapist, and educator dedicated to helping therapists build sustainable, values-aligned careers—without burning out. Through professional consultation, financial therapy services, and her signature Momentum & Money group, Khara empowers therapists in private practice to diversify their income through avenues such as public speaking, clinical and financial therapy supervision, on-demand courses, books, digital products, retreats, and thriving financial therapy practices.
As a financial therapy supervisor, Khara provides a supportive community alongside individual and group supervision, consultation, and deep “self-of-the-therapist” work. She also serves as the Director of Training at the Financial Therapy Clinical Institute, where she helps shape the future of the field by addressing gaps in early-career education—including leading a highly regarded annual online externship.
Khara is the co-author of the Amazon #1 bestseller Your Enneagram and Money: Transforming Enneagram Edges into Financial Freedom, along with a companion workbook featuring more than 23 practical financial therapy tools. Her work focuses on helping individuals transform their relationship with money—supporting under-earners in spending, saving, and earning in alignment with their values.
In addition to her clinical and entrepreneurial work, Khara is deeply committed to education. She has authored nine books and serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Denver, where she teaches financial therapy skills, counseling techniques, and the Enneagram in therapy. She is also a sought-after trainer for financial organizations across Colorado and beyond.
When she’s not consulting, teaching, or speaking—including her work as a TEDx speaker—Khara embraces her role as a serial entrepreneur while enjoying adventures with her spouse and daughter, often paired with her favorite indulgence: gluten-free desserts shared with family.
